Camera Focus

Good focus is one of the simplest ways to make a photo stronger. If the main subject is soft or blurry, the picture usually loses its impact right away. While a little motion or softness can sometimes add mood, most of the time you want the eye to land on a subject that is clear and sharp. A few easy habits with a phone or other handheld camera can help you get there more consistently.

Tap the subject before shooting
Tap your main subject on the screen so the camera knows where you want the focus to be.

Hold the camera still for a moment
After you tap to focus, pause briefly before pressing the shutter. That small moment of stillness often helps.

Keep the right distance
If you get too close, the camera may not focus well. Step back a little, then crop later if needed. Avoid zooming in from a distance, moving closer will give you a sharper focus.

Clean the lens
A smudged lens can make a picture look soft and dull. A quick wipe can make more difference than you might expect.
